Abstract

The international migration of health professionals has increased in recent decades, including the mobility of foreign-trained dentists. In this context, this study aimed to analyze the scientific literature on the integration process of these professionals into health systems through an integrative review. The search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, considering studies published between 2010 and 2025. A total of 12 scientific articles were included in the final sample. The results showed that the integration of foreign-trained dentists is influenced by multiple factors, including migration motivations, regulatory barriers, sociocultural challenges, and impacts on health systems. The main difficulties identified include credential recognition processes, licensing requirements, language barriers, and challenges related to professional and social adaptation. Furthermore, the findings indicate that the presence of these professionals does not automatically improve access to oral health services. It is concluded that the integration of foreign-trained dentists is a complex process that requires structured public policies and increased scientific production in the field, particularly focused on dentistry.
