Abstract

Chronic low back pain is a highly prevalent musculoskeletal condition associated with functional disability and a significant impact on quality of life. It is highly prevalent in the Brazilian population and considered a public health problem. Given this, with the emergence of conservative rehabilitation protocols, the Pilates Method has been widely used as a strategy. This study aimed to analyze the available evidence in the literature regarding the effectiveness of the Pilates Method in the functional rehabilitation of patients with chronic low back pain. This is an integrative literature review, conducted in the PubMed and SciELO databases, including studies published between 2020 and 2026. Randomized and non-randomized clinical trials, experimental and quasi-experimental studies were included, while theses and dissertations, congress abstracts, studies addressing acute low back pain, or studies in pregnant women were excluded. Finally, based on eligibility criteria, six studies were selected for this review. In general, the results demonstrated that the Pilates Method is a safe intervention that significantly reduces pain, improves functional disability and quality of life, with low side effects, showing results superior to or equivalent to other physiotherapeutic approaches. Furthermore, a positive impact on psychosocial factors such as kinesiophobia and pain catastrophizing was evident. It is concluded that the Pilates Method is an effective and safe intervention, and is recommended as a therapeutic strategy in the management of chronic low back pain.
