Preeclampsia is a very common condition observed in pregnant women from the twentieth week of gestation onwards, with prevalence in Brazil and worldwide. It is characterized by an increase in blood pressure that can be caused by a lack of essential care in the early stages and throughout pregnancy. It is more recurrent in developing countries due to the large number of people suffering from misinformation and also from economic and social vulnerability, thus hindering diagnosis and treatment, consequently increasing infant and maternal mortality rates. The recognition of risk factors by doctors and nurses on duty is an important factor in the prophylaxis of preeclampsia, thus preventing an exacerbated increase in blood pressure and the occurrence of the disease. The description of these factors is necessary for pregnant women to identify the signs and, in practice, contribute to gestational health. Therefore, this study aims to identify and analyze the main risk factors associated with the development of pre-eclampsia during pregnancy, as well as describe them, investigating the relationship between maternal factors such as age, family history, and pre-existing conditions (diabetes and obesity) in the incidence of the disease. It also aims to evaluate the impact of environmental and behavioral factors, such as diet, stress levels, and sedentary lifestyle, on the development of this condition
