Abstract

Chemotherapy, widely used in oncological treatment, is associated with adverse effects that impact not only the physiological condition but also patients’ self-image and emotional well-being. In this context, aesthetic nursing emerges as a relevant field for comprehensive care. This study aimed to analyze the role of the aesthetic nurse in supporting the physical and emotional well-being of patients undergoing chemotherapy. This is an integrative literature review conducted through searches in scientific databases, applying previously established inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulting in a final selection of 23 articles. The findings showed that cutaneous and capillary changes resulting from chemotherapy directly affect self-esteem, potentially triggering psychosocial distress and compromising treatment adherence. Interventions carried out by aesthetic nurses, including dermocosmetic care, self-care guidance, and emotional support, demonstrated a positive impact on quality of life, body perception, and therapeutic engagement. There was also a consensus among the studies regarding the effects of aesthetic changes on self-image and emotional well-being, although differences were observed among authors regarding the central role of aesthetic nursing in this process. It is concluded that the role of the aesthetic nurse represents a relevant component in oncological care, as it integrates physical and psychosocial dimensions and contributes to the promotion of well-being and continuity of treatment.
