Analysis of the urban and social impacts of the deactivation of the Municipal Theater of Conceição do Araguaia/PA

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the urban and social impacts resulting from the deactivation of the Municipal Theater of Conceição do Araguaia/PA, located in the Capelinha neighborhood. The research is characterized as a quantitative study with an exploratory and descriptive approach, developed through field research conducted with local community residents. Data collection involved questionnaires, direct observation of the building, photographic records, a semi-structured interview with a local cultural agent, and bibliographic research. The collected data were organized and analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques, including frequencies, percentages, graphs, and qualitative interpretation of the information obtained. The results showed that most participants associate the current condition of the building with negative impacts related to feelings of insecurity, deterioration of the urban landscape, and loss of the social functionality of the space. Furthermore, the findings revealed different community perceptions regarding the future of the structure, with a predominance of opinions favoring the replacement of the building with another public facility better suited to the neighborhood’s current needs. It is concluded that the deactivation and lack of maintenance of public facilities can generate significant urban and social impacts, reinforcing the importance of planning, building maintenance, and the functional definition of these spaces to ensure better collective and urban use.
