Childhood obesity is a significant public health problem due to its substantial increase in prevalence and its negative repercussions on the child's physical, emotional, and social health, potentially extending into adulthood. In this context, nurses play a fundamental role in health promotion and prevention of this condition, especially within the scope of Primary Health Care. This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, developed through a literature review based on national and international scientific publications available in health databases, as well as official documents from the Ministry of Health over the last 10 years. After screening using an inclusion and exclusion process, 9 studies met the criteria of this research and comprise the sample. The nurse's role goes beyond anthropometric monitoring, encompassing educational actions aimed at promoting healthy eating habits, encouraging physical activity, providing guidance to families, identifying risk factors early, and monitoring child growth and development. Furthermore, the role of the nurse as a coordinator of interdisciplinary and intersectoral actions stands out, strengthening ties with the community and contributing to the construction of sustainable preventive practices. Given the above, nurses are essential in addressing childhood obesity, and it is necessary to value their educational and preventive actions, as well as to strengthen public policies that promote children's health in a comprehensive and continuous manner.
