Objective: To analyze the available literature regarding the clinical and radiographic features and therapeutic management of simple bone cysts of the mandible. Methods: A literature review was conducted using PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, and SciELO databases, including relevant studies focusing on the clinical, radiographic, and therapeutic aspects of the lesion. Results: The literature indicates that simple bone cysts predominantly affect young individuals, with a higher frequency in the posterior region of the mandible. Most cases are asymptomatic and are often diagnosed incidentally during routine radiographic examinations. Radiographically, the lesion typically presents as a well-defined unilocular radiolucency, often with scalloped margins and preserved pulp vitality. Surgical exploration with curettage is the most commonly reported treatment approach, generally associated with favorable outcomes. Conclusion: Simple bone cysts of the mandible present relatively consistent clinical and radiographic patterns. However, gaps remain regarding their etiopathogenesis and long-term follow-up, highlighting the need for further studies.
