Abstract

Introduction: Burn patient care requires specialized assistance and sound decision-making from initial care to rehabilitation. Burns compromise skin integrity and expose the patient to intense pain, risk of infection, hemodynamic instability, and emotional distress. In this context, continuing education stands out as an essential strategy to improve nursing care and strengthen evidence-based practices. Objective: To analyze the contribution of continuing education to the quality of nursing care for burn patients. Methodology: This is a narrative literature review, with a qualitative approach, based on scientific publications and technical documents published between 2021 and 2026. The search was conducted in the PubMed, SciELO, BMC, Nature, NCBI Bookshelf databases and nursing journals, including studies related to burn patient care and continuing health education. Results and Discussion: The studies showed that continuing education strengthens competencies related to initial burn assessment, fluid resuscitation, wound care, pain management, infection prevention, and clinical monitoring. Furthermore, it promotes effective communication, multidisciplinary action, and standardization of care procedures, contributing to greater patient safety and a reduction in complications. Conclusion: It is concluded that continuing education is fundamental to improving nursing care for burn patients, promoting professional development, strengthening evidence-based practices, and humanizing care, resulting in safer, more comprehensive, and effective care.
