Comprehensive nursing care for women experiencing domestic violence: a literature review

Abstract

Objective: To analyze, in light of the available scientific evidence, comprehensive nursing care for women who are victims of domestic violence, considering the challenges, care strategies, and the importance of professional practice. Method: This is na integrative literature review with a qualitative approach, conducted using databases such as PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, LILACS, SciELO, and BDENF. Results: The results demonstrated that domestic violence against women continues to be a serious public health problem, causing significant physical, psychological, and social impacts. Nursing was identified as playing a fundamental role in the reception, early identification, and follow-up of women affected by violence, especially in Primary Health Care, due to its proximity to the community and its ability to establish a trusting relationship with the women served. Important challenges were also identified, including the underreporting of cases, victims’ fear of reporting the violence, emotional and financial dependence, and insufficient professional training. Conclusion: It is concluded that domestic violence against women requires multidisciplinary action and effective coping strategies, with nursing playing na essential role in this process. The study demonstrated that humanized care, based on reception, ethics, and active listening, contributes to strengthening the bond between healthcare professionals and patients, promoting safety and adherence to care. The research also highlighted the relevance of the Maria da Penha Law in strengthening public policies and protecting victims. However, challenges remain regarding underreporting, the fragility of the support network, and the need for greater qualification of nursing professionals.
