Abstract

The present study aimed to analyze the scientific evidence regarding the effectiveness of physiotherapeutic protocols in preventing falls among older adults with sarcopenia, considering their effects on muscle strength, balance, and functional performance. This study consists of an integrative literature review conducted using the SciELO, PubMed, and LILACS databases, including publications from 2018 to 2024. Studies investigating the relationship between sarcopenia, physical therapy, and fall risk in individuals aged 60 years or older were included. The results demonstrated that physical therapy plays a fundamental role in the prevention and treatment of sarcopenia by improving muscle strength, postural stability, and functional mobility. Among the most effective interventions were resistance training, balance exercises, gait retraining, and multimodal exercise programs. However, methodological heterogeneity was observed among the studies, particularly regarding the frequency, intensity, and duration of interventions, which limited the standardization of protocols. It was concluded that physical therapy is essential in reducing the risk of falls among older adults with sarcopenia, contributing to greater autonomy and quality of life. Nevertheless, further clinical studies are needed to strengthen the scientific evidence and establish more standardized guidelines.
