Use of Homeopathics in the Control of Gastrointestinal Helminthiasis in Sheep

Brazilian sheep farming faces significant challenges due to gastrointestinal worm infestations, which compromise productivity and animal health, exacerbated by increasing resistance to conventional anthelmintics. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of homeopathic treatment as a sustainable alternative in controlling these parasitoses in sheep. The methodology employed a completely randomized design, comparing homeopathic, allopathic, and control treatments in three replicates, with periodic evaluation of OPG (Eggs per Gram of feces) using the modified Gordon & Whitlock technique. The results indicated that homeopathic treatment demonstrated significant potential in reducing the parasite load and improving productive performance and animal welfare. It is concluded that homeopathy represents a viable and sustainable alternative for the control of gastrointestinal worm infestations in sheep, minimizing parasite resistance and the presence of residues, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals, although it requires greater dissemination and in-depth research.
