This study aims to analyze the influence of parental denial on the delay in the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder in childhood and its implications for early intervention. It is an integrative literature review with a qualitative approach and descriptive nature, conducted through searches in the SciELO, PubMed, and PePSIC databases. Articles published in Portuguese, English, and Spanish that addressed the relationship between parental denial, autism diagnosis, and child development were selected. The results show that parental denial is associated with emotional factors such as fear, insecurity, and frustration, as well as a lack of information and social stigma related to the disorder. These factors contribute to the minimization of early signs and to delays in seeking specialized evaluation. It was also observed that late diagnosis compromises access to early interventions, which are essential for the cognitive, social, and communicative development of the child. On the other hand, access to information, family support, and multiprofessional follow-up favor acceptance of the diagnosis and adherence to treatment. It is concluded that parental denial is a relevant factor in th invisibilization of autism in childhood, and it is necessary to implement psychoeducation and support strategies for families to promote early diagnosis and better prognoses.
