Objective: To describe the experience of establishing an in-hospital Normal Birth Center in the Amazon region, with a focus on the organization of care and the coordination of services. Method: This is an experience report based on a maternity ward in the Amazon region, where the implementation process involved a situational assessment, the definition of eligibility criteria, the establishment of care pathways, and the development of Standard Operating Procedures. Results and discussion: The incorporation of evidence-based practices was observed, such as the presence of a companion, freedom of movement, the use of non-pharmacological methods for pain relief, and skin-to-skin contact, as well as the emphasis on the environment as a therapeutic component, with themed suites inspired by the Amazonian nature and features focused on comfort, privacy, and a welcoming atmosphere, thereby enhancing the quality of care and promoting a more humanized approach. Conclusion: It is concluded that the implementation proved feasible, demonstrating that the integration of care protocols and a high-quality environment contributes to safe, humanized care that is integrated into the regional context.
